About

A study desk for sound, script, and language history.
← Chart

This is an early study interface, built for one reader. The chart on the home page is the spine: ~100 IPA symbols laid out by place and manner of articulation. Each cell links to a phone page with a short articulation note and its nearest neighbors on the chart.

Around the chart, two language journals — Arabic and Telugu — are kept as personal reading notes. They are intentionally small. The point is depth on a few pages, not breadth across many.

What is here now

What is intentionally unfinished

What is deferred

Larger pieces — script-evolution trees, broad language atlases, loanword explorers, historical sound change — were considered and set aside for now. They sit in _archive/ and may return later as separate study desks. The constitution that decided this is in PROJECT.md.

Direction

The intent is to grow slowly: more depth on existing phones, a third or fourth studied language when one is being read closely, and eventually scripts and writing-system notes that follow from those languages. Not a database. Not an encyclopedia. A place to return to.
