Apollo of Veii
Apollo of Veii
Etruscan · c. 510 BCE · Veii
A full-size polychrome terracotta from the roofline of the Portonaccio sanctuary, striding forward to contest Herakles for a stolen deer. Its broad smile and swinging drapery put Etruscan sculpture at parity with anything being made in archaic Greece.
