Anuradhapura- The Abhayagiri Dágoba. View from the west. This Dágoba was built by King Walagam Báhu in the first century before Christ. It is an enormous mass of solid brickwork, 401 feet in diameter at the base, and, although originally much higher, is at the present time about 236 feet in height.

Anuradhapura- The Abhayagiri Dágoba. View from the north, with ruins of a stone bridge, 100 feet in length, constructed with rough stones 15 feet long, placed 5 feet apart and supported on rough stone uprights. The roadway was probably of wood.

Anuradhapura- Sri-maha Bódhin Wahanse (the sacred Bó Tree). Sculptured moon-stone at the principal entrance, 6 feet 6 inches in diameter. (No. 133)

Polonnaruwa- The Abhayagiriya-wiharé: general view from the north-east

Mihintale- The Etwiháre Dágoba. This Dágoba was constructed by King Bhátya Tissa in the first year of the Christian era, and enshrines within a mass of solid brickwork, nearly 100 feet high, a single hair from the forehead of Buddha.

Anuradhapura- The Mirisaweti Dágoba. Built by King Dutugemunu about the middle of the second century B.C.

Anuradhapura- The Daladá-máligáwa. View from the north-east. In this building was deposited the sacred tooth of Buddha on its arrival from India in the fourth century after Christ.
